Human Rights Day at Kottayam – A Powerful Call for Justice and Equality
This year’s Human Rights Day was observed with great enthusiasm in Kottayam, in association with Orange Day – a global campaign to raise awareness about violence against women, unity, and respect.
One of the key programs took place at Kottayam – Nagampadam, in the esteemed presence of Daya Bai, the renowned Indian social activist from Kerala who has dedicated her life to working among the tribal communities of central India.
The day began with a vibrant rally from Kottayam Railway Station to Nagampadam, with around 360 participants – including members of Community Action Groups (CAG) and students from SB College and BCM College – marching in solidarity. The rally was flagged off by the Kottayam Women Protection Officer.
The formal meeting was inaugurated by Bincy Sebastian, Chairperson of Ettumanoor Municipality. In her inspiring keynote address, Daya Bai emphasized the importance of human rights and social justice.
The program featured impactful cultural performances:

“Nerkazhcha” – a powerful street play by the Vagamon region, portraying pressing human rights issues.

Flash mob by BCM College students, grabbing public attention and sparking conversations.

One-woman drama by Daya Bai, moving the audience with a poignant portrayal of women’s struggles and the plight of Endosulfan victims.
The event drew around 700 spectators, who engaged deeply with the performances and messages, making the day a memorable and inspiring call for change.
